Are you scared that the future could be as scary as it is in the movies?

I definitely am. I think it's way too easy for the future could turn out horrible, people just don't realize it. What if in 20 years we're reminiscing about how the swine flu started out as a small scare, because in the future it's an epidemic? What if democracy doesn't exist in a few decades, and citizens' lives are more difficult than ever? Not to mention the environmental problems we're setting aside such as global warming, food shortages, wildfires. I know I sound paranoid, but this is just my crazy thinking. What's yours?
