Help please.. Connotations of words.. examples..?

Denotation is the dictionary meaning. Connotation is the implied or deeper meaning and signifies figurative not literal language. Most dictionaries will give you examples.Try Thorndike- Barnhart or Oxford. You need to do some work so that when you encounter connotation in writing, you will not confuse it with denotation. That difference comes through accurate, repetitive practice. I will give you a start. Langston Hughes in his poem "Dreams" says that if dreams go, life is a barren field covered with snow. Think about what he is saying and ask yourself if you want your life to be a barren field covered with snow. If not, hit the books- especially a dictionary.
